The food bank says volunteer numbers drop off after the holiday season, so officials are asking community members to volunteer six times between January and March.
Jordan Browning of Ozarks Food Harvest says demand remains high even after the holidays.
“The reason it’s always important for us to have volunteers is because our demand here is always very constant so no matter what’s happening, whether that’s the holiday season or the first quarter of the new year that demand for food is still high across southwest Missouri,” said Browning. “So, for example, right here in Southwest Missouri, it’s about 1 in 5 children and 1 in 6 adults are facing hunger, and that need doesn’t go away just depending on the season.”
Food bank officials say one hour of volunteering helps provide 105 meals to people in need in Southwest Missouri.
