The Geek Foundation is a local non-profit that teaches free computer programming and maker tech classes like web development, robotics, and video game development with a focus on increasing diversity in the tech industry.
Our organization is growing and has several opportunities available for volunteer positions including volunteer educators for our kids and adult classes, as well as marketing and fundraising volunteers. Programs Committee Member (Volunteer Teachers)
Reports To: Programs Committee LeadPurpose of Role: The programs committee member is expected to volunteer at events, attend meetings, and implement the decisions of the Programs Committee.
The programs committee member has the following responsibilities:
Attend monthly Programs Committee meetings.
Volunteer for agreed upon programs.
Pitch new ideas for programs.
Offer your talents and connections to further the organization’s efforts, as well as seeking others who would make good additions to the committee.
Report any issues that could hinder success to the committee lead.
Help promote TGF by sharing the organization’s posts across your social media outlets.Marketing Committee
The marketing committee is expected to promote TGF through social media outlets, email newsletters, and the website.
Marketing Committee Lead
Reports To: ChairpersonPurpose of Role: The marketing committee lead is expected to ensure the organization is being effectively promoted through all marketing outlets.
The marketing committee lead has the following responsibilities:
Delegate content creation in the following areas:
Social media posts
Monthly program newsletter
Monthly blog post
Volunteer recruitment emails
Schedule and post the following after receiving approval from the chairperson:
Social media posts
Routine, interest-generating social media posts (2-3 times per week at 10am or 2pm) scheduled in Hootsuite
Programming events as needed
TGF organization posts as needed
Monthly program newsletter
Monthly blog post
Volunteer recruitment emails
Add public programs to the website and as events on the TGF Facebook page.
Propose paid social media posts to the chairperson and publish when approved.
Track social and website metrics and prepare monthly report for the chairperson.
Report any issues that could hinder success to the chairperson.
Help promote TGF by sharing the organization’s posts across your social media outlets.Marketing Committee Member
Reports To: Marketing Committee Lead
Purpose of Role: The marketing committee member is expected to help generate content for all marketing outlets.
The marketing committee member has the following responsibilities:
Design and write marketing materials as needed.
Design and write social media posts as needed.
Design and write blog posts as needed.
Design and write email newsletters for programs, fundraising, and volunteer recruitment as needed.
Assist committee lead in any other duties such as suggesting paid posts and tracking and reporting metrics.
Report any issues that could hinder success to the committee lead.

The fundraising committee is expected to lead fundraising efforts to ensure the financial success and growth of The Geek Foundation.
Fundraising Committee Lead
Reports To: President
Purpose of Role: The fundraising committee lead is expected to oversee fundraising efforts for The Geek Foundation.
The fundraising committee lead has the following responsibilities:
Research new fundraising opportunities (e.g. grants, sponsors, events).
Create and implement regular, small fundraising campaigns with approval from the president (e.g. a Facebook fundraiser to raise money for laptops).
Regularly check in with current and past sponsors.
Report fundraising efforts to the treasurer and the president monthly.
Report any issues that could hinder success to the president.

Purpose of Role: The fundraising committee member is expected to assist in fundraising efforts for The Geek Foundation.
