The Victim Center was formed in 1976 as the Rape Crisis Center, and at the time, it only provided crisis intervention services to adult victims of sexual assault. Over the years, our services have expanded beyond the initial scope to include individual counseling for victims of sexual assault and their families as well as services to include sexually abused children and their non-offending parents. Our services are free and confidential and include a 24-hour crisis hotline, victim advocacy, counseling, court support and prevention education.
We look for volunteer victim advocates to help with our 24-hour hotline services. The Victim Center’s volunteer victim advocates offer crucial support and comfort to victims of violent and sexual crimes.
Volunteer victim advocates select two to four shifts per month based on their schedule and availability. The Victim Center office phone is generally open Monday-Thursday, 9:00 am – 5:30 pm. Volunteer victim advocate shifts cover the remaining time periods, so that our crisis response line is staffed 24/7. Shifts may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
All volunteer victim advocates are trained and attend a monthly advocate meeting for continuing education, networking, and support.
